Tiny Forktail (Ischnura capreolus)
Hagen, 1861

Ischnura capreolus is widely distributed in the lowlands of the tropical Americas, from Tamaulipas (Mexico) to northern Argentina. This is one of the smallest odonates, often measuring less than 20mm. It inhabits well-vegetated ponds, lagoons, marshes, and weedy-ditches. The male has the eighth and ninth abdominal segments blue; females are variable colorations, e.g., green or bright yellow.
